Youth Discovered Dead After False Allegations of Taking Ashes

One teenage boy was found dead just days after being falsely blamed of stealing the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said items was never taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged taken remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's family landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his family said they did not receive that message.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was freed while investigations continued."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the actions or omissions of any organization led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
