A individual accused with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has consistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the court heard call records and data recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most covered child disappearance cases and is still open.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another voicemail, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I believe what I know."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the message continued.

The panel was told that by means of emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, told the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my claim."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in last December.

Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be taken seriously in the period leading up to the visit to that location, the county, in that winter.

The court heard message exchanges between the two defendants, in last November, considering attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the visit to their house, Mrs Spragg transmitted a communication which stated: "We find ourselves sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our headlights off resembling detectives. I wanted to do this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The case continues.
