Alarming Footage Reveals Point Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
A ranking policeman who rushed to the help of a partner who was ambushed by a blade-wielder received the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a traffic accident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.
"Officer stabbed," the officer stated over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and vehicle camera video shared by the force revealed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife extended.
He ran into the policeman who stumbled and fell to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a safe opportunity, ending the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need help on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his throat and additional cuts to his arms and torso, while Sgt Foster suffered knife wounds.
Officials reported Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to paramedics reached the scene.
The new award comes after the three officers were granted organizational Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local union branch in spring 2024.
They additionally received a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The responses of all three officers in the end rescued each other and ensured no members of the public endured any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, as stated by the department.
